The Technical Unit entered a tentative agreement with OSE for the collective bargaining agreement today. The ratification voting process and the informational zoom meeting links and schedule will be sent to members via email next week.
The Technical Unit will work with the Michigan Department of Corrections Wellness Board and EPIC Team leadership to resolve workplace safety concerns identified during negotiations. Contract ratification information will be emailed to Technical Unit members next week.

"Water Rules", a double entendre. Water Rules are needed to keep our fresh water clean & abundant. Michigan is a freshwater State (just look at a map), so we also like to exclaim, "Water Rules"! Our natural resources are important to everyone here, regardless of political party.

Tomorrow the Technical Unit continues the fight to protect our dental hygienist members. They should not be working alone with violent inmates. Our negotiations impasse brief is due tomorrow at 4pm.
The Tech Unit bargaining team participated in a 6 hour negotiations mediation session yesterday with the CSHO. A major hangup is prison dental/medical staff required to work alone with violent inmates. The union proposed this for 5 years. We had a sexual assault in March. No more

The Technical Unit requested mediation for ongoing negotiations with the State. Mediation occurs Friday, Oct 8th at 9am. Key issues include health & safety, protection for prison workers, critical worker wages and certification.
Today the Technical Union requested mediation help from the Civil Service Hearing Office for negotiations with the State Employer. Primary issues remaining involve safety, recruitment, retention, certification & the need for an apprenticeship program for road quality inspectors.
