CTU Pres Davis Gates & Mayor Brandon Johnson trying to use fear of Trump to spur support for a new contract taxpayers city can’t afford. CTU wants more pay, more members, less work, less accountability.

Meanwhile CTU contract BLOCKS elected Local School Councils and principals from making ANY school improvements that impact CTU members or selecting better school models, while DENYING parents alternatives to their failing schools.

CTU says money is sole reason for abysmal academic performance as only 11% of Black students are proficient in reading, 8% in math while Latino students are 18% proficient in reading, 15% in math on high school SAT tests despite spending $30K per student

School funding increased 43% per student during last contract started in 2019 and added over 9,000 more staff. District has is ONE staff person for every 7.6 students and over 22,000 non teaching staff.

Schools not only receive 56% of all property taxes but squandered an additional $2.8 billion in COVID monies and $1.3 billion in TIF windfall since 2019.

During same period schools added over 9,000 staff, city eliminated over 2,100 public safety positions. Now CTU wants billions more. CTU dominated school system is financially destroying the city while delivering a disastrous education product.
