Dear Virginia, my beloved Virginia..

I figure the people of Virginia have 21 enemies.

21 traitors to the Constitution.

Be that as it may, I think we have a larger problem still. Going through the Senate profiles, I see that of the 21 names, only about half were born in Virginia; the rest were from places like Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. But two names.. they weren’t even born in the United States at all.

How would I be received if I moved to Bangladesh and tried to outlaw Cricket.. or the dumping of sewage in the water supply? Salim.. was born in Bangladesh and didn’t touch United States soil until he was 16-17 years old.

How would I be viewed if I moved to India and tried to outlaw throwing trash all over the ground or leaving your children to be crushed under the wheels of a 300-ton rolling temple? Srinivasan.. was born in India.

Now of course you’ll claim: “But Travis! Are you being racist?!?” And of course I would respond, no, I’m pointing out the irony of moving to a country and then trying to eliminate one of their human rights that their ancestors fought and died for.

Wouldn’t these men be welcomed here if they accepted their new home as the gift that it is, instead of trying to harm it? Without their votes, this likely would not have passed… Of course the Senate President, our Lieutenant Governor.. Hasmi.. was also.. born in India.. she would have cast the deciding tiebreaker vote at 19-19.

Do YOU want to live in Bangladesh or India? These three definitely did not want to live in Bangladesh or India. They came here, to OUR home. Welcomed as guests, but now they want to slide a knife in our backs as thanks..

Should we tolerate when people move here and truly become American? I think we should. Sure. Because THAT.. is what’s called assimilation. It’s rare, but it does happen..

Should we tolerate when those foreign-born want to move here and begin to destroy our human rights, knowing full well the state of the very countries they once called home? No, I think that cannot be called tolerance, I think that should be considered for what it is.. suicidal empathy.. and becoming slaves to invaders.

Will you allow yourself to become a slave to those moving from everywhere else? To give up your human rights that your ancestors died to acquire and preserve? All in the name of tolerance? I do very much hope you won’t.

“Sic Semper Tyrannis” isn’t some edgy and cool-sounding Latin phrase our Founders put there. It’s a promise. A creed if you will. A guarantee of what happens when tyrants come around peddling their favorite line “This is for your protection!” or “We’re just trying to help!” The worst atrocities in human history that we now study all began with those famous lines that “This is for your protection!” and were always coupled with disarming the targeted populations.

Virginia, stand up, and defend yourselves. Defend what you hope to leave to your children someday. Because your enemies are already within the gates.
