I have just received a letter from Margery Kempe's Fellowship (@MKCPFellowship) , which I share here in the hope that some of you may feel as drawn to it as I have.

Their project, properly called "The Fellowship Scriptorium", strikes me as a deeply godly undertaking, and a beautiful way of praising the Lord: not merely by reading His Word, but by setting it down with one's own hand, as generations of faithful scribes once did.

The Fellowship Scriptorium

For centuries, the Word of God was lovingly copied by the hands of devoted scribes, who transformed the labour of writing into an act of prayer and praise. The Fellowship seeks to revive that tradition for our own age.

We invite Christians from every nation to take part in the creation of a hand-written King James Bible—a single manuscript composed by many hands, offered to the glory of God.

Those who wish to participate need only let us know. Each volunteer will be entrusted with a short passage of Holy Scripture to copy by hand. Once completed, the page will be scanned and returned to the Fellowship, where it will be assembled with the contributions of others into one complete manuscript.

Some participants may also be invited to create illuminated pages, illustrations, decorative initials, maps, reflections, or artistic interpretations inspired by the Scriptures, recalling the rich tradition of the great scriptoria while giving expression to the gifts of the present day.

Every page will bear the name or signature of its scribe, preserving the identity of each contribution while forming part of a single work. The finished manuscript will stand as a visible testimony that, though we are many, we are united in our love for God's Word and in our desire to glorify Him.

Once completed, the manuscript will serve as the master copy from which high-quality facsimile editions will be produced. Every facsimile will faithfully reproduce the original page by page—every hand, every flourish, every illustration, every imperfection—so that the finished work may be shared without losing the character of the manuscript itself.

This is not merely the copying of a book. It is the restoration of a sacred craft. It is a twenty-first-century scriptorium, where believers separated by oceans and cultures become fellow scribes of one manuscript. Each stroke of the pen is a prayer. Each page is an offering. Together, we seek to create a work that honours the Holy Scriptures, celebrates the beauty of craftsmanship, and stands as a lasting witness to the fellowship of Christians united in praise of Almighty God.

On Remembrance Day, we pause to honour and remember those who gave their lives in the service of others. We give thanks for the courage and sacrifice of all who have suffered or died in conflict.
We remember, too, those who continue to serve in the cause of peace, and we pray for a world where justice and reconciliation prevail.
