The shame that comes with not having money is something people don’t talk about enough.
It’s not just not being able to afford things. It’s avoiding certain conversations because you already know you can’t contribute. It’s watching your friends make plans and quietly looking for an excuse not to go. It’s needing help but feeling ashamed to ask. It’s seeing an opportunity and wondering how you’ll even afford to take the first step.
Sometimes, being broke doesn’t just affect your bank account. It affects how you see yourself.
You start feeling like you’re behind. You stop showing up. You become quiet. You turn down opportunities because you can’t afford the transportation, the data, the clothes, the laptop, or whatever else is required.
And the crazy part is that most people will never know what’s happening because you learn how to hide it. "Omo best in hiding shame we plenty for that lobby"
That’s why I have so much respect for anyone genuinely trying to change their situation. I know what it feels like to have almost nothing and still wake up every day trying to figure things out.
Money doesn’t solve every problem, but having enough money to breathe, make choices, help your family and take opportunities without constantly calculating every naira can change how you move through life.
I don’t think people understand how much peace comes from no longer being broke.
I hope me and my people make it out of the dark hole. 🥺😫💔
