Wrong. Govt raised the capital through the inflation tax. It’s simple — production creates assets. If the govt or private sector produces something, it creates assets. If the govt doesn’t produce something but just prints itself the money, it just steals capital from its holders.

Do you realize you're conflating taxable income with taxes as a source of funding? All the main MMTers (Mosler, Wray etc) will all argue that every country will have a real recourse constraint and that taxes are necessary. But they're not a necessary source for funding expenditure.

If the govt wants to buy a bridge, it can do so, with a blank balance sheet, by having the Fed credit the reserves to the primary deal to buy the bonds to fund the TGA to buy the bridge. Once the bridge is purchased there are now net financial assets in the private sector all without taxes.
