@pmontu33 Thank you very much for sharing your video, very interesting! I am also in the same situation and posed the question since I sometimes feel there are certain expressions I am not aware of in my L1 since my parents donโt have the same L1 as I do.

Do L1 speakers of a language whose parents have another language as an L1 have a different level than that of L1 speakers of the same language whose parents are also L1 speakers of that language?
E.g. An ๐บ๐ธ whose L1 is EN but whose parents' L1 is ES.

You speak a variety of an L2 language which has a variety considered the 'prestige' or 'standard' variety. What do you say when you hear condescending comments about the variety you speak?
E.g. L2 speakers of ๐จ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ FR who are told they aren't learning 'real' French.
@LanguagePat Oh thank you and nice to hear from you, Patricia! I was very, very pleasantly surprised! I feel like the evaluator was a bit too generous because I donโt think my Swahili is at the same level as my Portuguese (I also have a 2+ in Portuguese).

Got my test results on my Swahili oral test.
I got a 2+ based on the ILR rating scale, which apparently is the equivalent to a B2 in the CEFR framework. Started learning Swahili from scratch on September 30th 2022.

I would like to get my Swahili tested sometime this year. In my personal opinion, below are my current levels. I'll check back in after my test to see how accurate I was in my self-assessment.
Reading: B1
Writing: A2-B1
Comprehension: A2-B1
Speaking: A2-B1
And you?

For language learners whose mother tongue is NOT English, how do you feel when you are learning an L2 language (not English) and a native speaker of that L2 language responds to you in English when you try to speak to them in your L2 language to practise?
@Nattistrying I can definitely understand how it feels disappointing. Would you say that after your mother tongue, English is the language you feel most comfortable in?
#langtwt
What pronunciation difficulty do you have in your L2 language that gives you away when you are speaking it with a native speaker?
I know that in Portuguese itโs my vowel sounds, particularly knowing whether itโs an open or closed E or O sound.
@cobbaltt Would it be possible to give an example of a non-stressed vowel in English? What is a word in English which best describes your pronunciation challenge?
@DrTommerdahl Haha, Iโm sure you donโt sound angry when you speak French! Would it be possible to give an example of a word in French which has a back โrโ in it?

Even though itโs his L2 language he was the first astronaut to speak French to the media while en route to the moon. Trying to contain my tears of joy as an ENORMOUS space exploration geek and language lover.
