The Facts and Lies of Electric Shock “Therapy”

When it comes to the art of eloquently disguising falsehoods as truth, psychiatrists have no peers. They spend billions on marketing their deadly madness, turning scientifically unsound theories and destructive “therapies” into carefully crafted ad campaigns full of soothing music, pleasant pictures, and scientific-sounding explanations.

Any sane person would consider blasting electricity through the brain torture. The psychiatrist calls it therapy: Electroconvulsive Therapy, or ECT. Here is the ECT procedure as described by the American Psychiatric Association.

At the time of each treatment a patient is given general anesthesia and a muscle relaxant and electrodes are attached to the scalp at precise locations. The patient’s brain is stimulated with a brief controlled series of electrical pulses. This causes a seizure within the brain that lasts for approximately a minute. The patient is asleep for the procedure and awakens after 5-10 minutes, much as from minor surgery.

What they don’t tell you is this. The impact of the shock is so great, muscle relaxants must be used to prevent the convulsive seizures from fracturing your bones and teeth. Your ankle is tightly wrapped by a blood pressure cuff which impedes the flow of relaxant to the foot. This allows the psych to observe the jerking of your foot and twitching of your toes during the procedure. The relaxants are so powerful that your natural breathing stops. This makes it necessary for oxygen to be given to you. In this near comatose condition, 100 – 190 volts to your brain is required to generate a seizure. This much electricity is eight times the amount required to create nerve damage, according to OSHA.

In the words of those who have experienced it first hand.
“All the therapy in the world is not going to erase the scars of being dragged into a room, having a band on your head, and having your brains fried.”
“I don’t remember much. ECT erased 20 years or more of my life.”

“The shocks caused severe memory loss and intellectual disabilities. And now, I can’t recall any experiences before that time. My life as I knew it has been wiped out for me by ECT. I don’t know who I am.”

“I was forcibly electroshocked five times and tried to resist. My heart stopped on the fifth shock, and I now suffer from permanent memory loss.”

“ECT destroyed brain cells filled with memory. During my first ECT seizure my kneecap dislocated. The needle which held the muscle relaxant drug ‘slipped’ out of my arm. The kneecap was surgically removed. One of my heart valves was permanently damaged and a recent head CT scan revealed irregularities.”

“They manhandled me, grabbed me, and forced me into the ECT room. I yelled, fought, and pleaded for help. No one came to my rescue.”

In the USA, approximately 100,000 patients receive this barbaric torture annually.

Drugging Children for Conformity

Throughout its long history, Ritalin has been a drug in search of a “disorder”. Its manufacturer Ciba (now Novartis) has spent millions on advertising and “doctor education” trying to find and create a profitable “disease” for its drug.
In the mid-1950’s Ritalin was advertised as a way to boost spirits and to make patients more cooperative and manageable. Later, in the same decade, Ciba tried another approach and marketed Ritalin as a “safe, effective geriatric supplement”. In the 1960’s promotional focus again shifted and it touted itself as a way to “restore alertness, enthusiasm and drive” and a way to “spark energy”.
In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, housewives became the target population for this wandering drug. One magazine ad of the day was quite blatant. It featured a photograph of an exhausted homemaker sitting atop her vacuum, bags under her eyes, head resting in her palm. With RITALIN, trumpeted the ad, “fatigue and worry seem to vanish”. Even pop culture of this era reflected the sudden popularity of drug manufacturers targeting mothers. The Rolling Stones’ 1966 hit song “Mother’s Little Helper” contained these lyrics:
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though she’s not really ill, there’s a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper
And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day
But it wasn’t until the 1970’s when Ritalin began its ascent to become one of the biggest players in the multi-billion dollar market we know today. That was when it began selling itself to worried parents with anxiety-stoking ad copy like this:
The mean child who doesn’t mean it… Is he a “hyper-active” problem child?
At the same time, doctors began pushing childhood MBD, or Minimal Brain Dysfunction in children. Ads trumpeted with authority:
Mischief or MBD? (Don’t mistake one for the other)
He has disrupted his family…his teacher’s classroom…and his own life. But he can’t help it. He has MBD.
MBD was the “all-encompassing, wastebasket diagnosis for any child who does not quite conform to society’s stereotype of normal children”. These words come from the article The Minimal Brain Dysfunction Myth published in November 1975 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Pediatrics.
In the eyes of the psychiatrist and big pharma, what is a “normal” (conformist) child today? Using their own criteria, directly from the ADHD checklist, such a child:
● interferes with no one
● answers questions politely
● never interrupts
● pleasantly stands in line
● quietly waits for their turn
● stays focused on homework
● always completes activities before moving on to the next activity
● never makes careless mistakes
● stays organized
● never loses anything
● keeps self under control
● never fidgets
● remains seated
● always says the right thing at the right time
● sits quietly on task
I myself can think of no child I know or have known, no matter how stellar their grades or wonderful their accomplishments or fantastic their parents, who meets all these criteria.
Every child who does not conform to psychiatry’s definition of normal is the “right” target for Ritalin (or Concerta or Adderall or any other drug that targets such children) — the “right” target being all children. And thus, Ritalin’s “disease” of the “hyperactive child” was born: ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. (Not surprisingly, since 2000, the FDA has cited every single major ADHD drug manufacturer for false and misleading advertising.)
Methylphenidate, the drug that is Ritalin and the basis of all ADHD drugs, has a high potential for abuse and it produces many of the same effects as cocaine, according to the DEA. It has also been shown to specifically suppress social play behavior.
With over ten million Americans currently taking ADHD drugs, millions of adults included, psychiatry and big pharma are on their way to creating a nation full of quiet, unquestioning, and non-interfering conformists.
Unless we do something about it.
One suggestion is to file complaints against psychiatrists. States seldom take action without first receiving a complaint.

The Shrinks are Shrinking

“Psychiatry is in decline and is becoming obsolete.”

This statement does not come from an anti-psychiatry group or a former patient with an axe to grind or a dubious website. This quote comes from an article published by The British Journal of Medical Practitioners, a professional, peer-reviewed online medical journal. The title of the article says it all Psychiatry in Decline. How does the author, a noted English psychiatrist, make his point? Plentifully, honestly and accurately:

● Psychotropic drugs are perceived as a form of control by psychiatrists towards their patients.
● Psychiatrists are denigrated for being in the grip of Big Pharma and perceived as drug pushers.
● Shock therapy is considered barbaric.
● Psychiatry is a victim of its own psychobabble and increasingly mind-numbing research.
● Outcome studies are quoted as favorable, when the very principle of their foundations is very shaky.
● Abuse of psychiatric practice does occur. (As readers of PsychSearch are well aware.)
● Political regimes throughout the world have used and still use powerful psych drugs to subdue and control individuals who challenge the authority of the State.
● Psychiatry has been used by some totalitarian regimes to enforce political control: Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and apartheid in South Africa.
Not a favorable outlook. But not only is psychiatry becoming obsolete, the number of psychiatrists is also shrinking.
According to one leading journal of healthcare policy, the population of US practicing psychiatrists declined between 2003 – 2013. Interestingly, during the same period the number of primary care physicians grew. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report discussed the trend of the declining number of US medical students choosing psychiatry as a specialty. This downturn is on top of a psychiatric shortage, the same article claims.
In July, when asked about the shortage of psychiatrists, the president of the World Psychiatric Association, Dinesh Bhugra, lamented the dour future of psychiatry. He told PsychSearch that a dwindling number of students were interested in pursuing psychiatry and they needed to improve recruitment and training of new students.
Psychiatry is a dying profession. Its theories are outmoded and inaccurate, its practices inhumane and ineffective, its numbers declining.
The shrinks are shrinking.

Illinois recently enacted a law requiring annual mental health screenings for all public school students in grades 3 through 12—a policy that is deeply alarming given the well-documented failures of past screening programs, which wrongly labeled children, fueled overdiagnosis, and opened the door to unnecessary and dangerous psychiatric drugging of children and teens.
The dangers of school-based mental health screening are exemplified by the now-defunct TeenScreen program, once implemented in over 2,800 sites across 47 U.S. states. Promoted as a tool to identify depression in teens, the program came under fire for its deeply flawed methodology—most notably an 84% false positive rate. This meant that the majority of students flagged by the screening were wrongly labeled as depressed, often leading to psychiatric referrals and prescriptions for antidepressantsknown to carry serious risks, including aggression, emotional blunting, and suicidal ideation.

These flawed assessments pathologized normal emotional responses as mental illness, and the program’s failure serves as a clear warning: this approach ultimately benefits the psycho-pharmaceutical industry—not the childrenit claims to protect.

The pharma-funded mainstream media has been touting a recent study of the Danish health registry—Andersson, et al.—which purports to show that aluminum-containing vaccines are not associated with neurological injuries including autism and Asperger's.

In the accompanying article, I inventory the long parade of statistical artifices that the industry-funded authors used to achieve their deceptive results.

Fierce criticism from the scientific community has now forced the authors to release their supplementary data, which shows calamitous evidence of harm.

These data are a devastating indictment of aluminum-containing vaccines directly contradicting the published study’s conclusions.

The data show a statistically significant 67% increased risk of Asperger’s syndrome per 1 mg increase in aluminum exposure among children born between 2007 and 2018.

Compared to the moderate exposure group, for every 10,000 children in the highest aluminum exposure cohort, there were: 9.7 more cases of neurodevelopmental disorder, 4.5 more cases of autistic disorder, and 8.7 more cases of the broader category of autism spectrum disorder.

By exposing these dangerous deceptions, @HHSGov is signaling a new era of gold standard science, obliterated taboos, and public honesty.
