@raybury@bi02247255 So if a set of rules isn't manmade but came from God, what would that mean about whether the Lord is closest to or bound to or is legally correct about that set of rules, or the church or other organization that that set of rules is part of?
@ZoJubal@bi02247255 Just a couple I can think of are requiring baptism by immersion in water and baptism by the Spirit by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands--I don't think all churches now do that.
@legokingnm@bi02247255 So if Jesus said we need baptism for people capable of committing sin and by immersion, and the laying on of hands to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, etc., and not all churches profess that, is that not differing in essentials?
@2cammac2@bi02247255 Because Jesus' whole ministry as a mortal was spent in preaching the gospel and organizing His disciples into His church structure with authority and order.
@CrankyAttitude@bi02247255 So I think you're saying here that your belief is that anyone who considers himself or herself a Christian is one, and that the reason for your belief is that anyone who says what they choose or believe should be believed. Is that correct? Trying to understand the comments here
@ajcii@bi02247255 Religious categories isn't the same as individual churches that have their own specific organization and organizational structure. And since there are people who can set up their own church for a church of one etc., and people have done it all the time, I could imagine 45,000.
@winterclaw42@bi02247255 ...The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been set up by God, because for sure then we can know it's built on the rock.
@winterclaw42@bi02247255 So are you saying the Catholic church failed at some point? Or saying something else. I'm trying to understand the different comments.
I do like your point that even the things God has set up have failed, and that manmade things definitely do/are. That's why it matters that...
@joeyartist@bi02247255 There are so many sects because the same as every other time in history when Jesus has restored His gospel, people then leave and go their own way at some point, and often before very long, and that's no different this time when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...
@GremlinIndustry@bi02247255 I think you're saying here that your belief is that there is only one or possibly more true churches, and that the reason for your belief is...? Is that correct? I'm trying to understand the answers to the questions asked.
@GremlinIndustry@bi02247255 I choose The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and not what the Nicene council said because when I pray about it, the Lord tells me to belong to His church, and that church is not the church that wrote the Nicene creed. That's the same story as Joseph Smith's story...
@TheBasedTrinity@bi02247255 The same power and authority Jesus gave Peter is the same authority He gave Adam, Noah, Elijah, Abraham, Moses, Joseph Smith, etc., and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus' restored church, not a splinter off of any other church. Thanks for this comment!
@Markcbqi@bi02247255 So you think everything that isn't in the Bible (or someone hasn't yet found in the Bible) is of human origin--that nothing outside the Bible can be of God?
@TommyPettonJr@bi02247255 So I think you're saying here that your belief is that the true church is what is aligned with scripture, and the reason for your belief is that scripture says so/your observation of churches aligning with scripture. Is that correct?
