Historic day in Jigjiga. Thanks to the commitment of our visionary leader Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, two critical development projects are today inaugurated in Somali Region, just months after 10 billion dollar worth of Mega Projects were launched in the Region.
The Shabeeleey Resort, the first ever Tourism project, and the ~260m dollar Aysha’ wind power project will have immense positive impact on the lives of the people of the region and the country. On behalf of the government and people of the Somali Region, we thank the Prime Minister for the attention and priority he has given to a region long marginalized.
Once considered a periphery, Jigjiga is positioning itself as a new important hub and center in the regional integration initiative of the Horn of Africa.
At a time of uncertainties on multiple levels across the world, Jigjiga is casting a glow of unity that brings together leaders of the horn. If you think the inauguration of the Shabele Resort whose idea was conceived by the same PM in the first place, is the main dish here, then you are mistaken !
This is an illustration of assurance amid those uncertainties: that we in the horn are bound by kinship, history, geography and above all shared destiny !
Thank you Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli for your leadership and guidance at this critical moment of ours.

The GERD is one of the major achievements of the Prosperity Party era. It is testament to what can be achieved through unity, vision, and determination!
On the political front, the formation of a unified national party in a multinational State, hitherto run by a nominal coalition dominated by one party, was no mean feat! The inclusion of satellite (surrogate) parties in marginalized regions into the unified ruling party, was a major watershed in Ethiopian politics!
On the economy, ending century-old distortions through bold macroeconomic reform is a game changer!
Green legacy, Bounty of the Basket, Urban & Rural Corridor developments, expansion of basic infrastructure and industries, are other notable achievements of the reform government!

#Ethiopia: New fertilizer factory to tap into #Calub and #Hilala natural gas reserves in #Ogaden basin
The $2.5 billion investment agreement signed between Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and Dangote Group to build a urea fertilizer production complex in Gode, Somali Regional State will utilize natural gas from the Ogaden basin, specifically the Calub and Hilala reserves.
EIH CEO Brook Taye (PhD) said the natural gas, a key input for urea fertilizer, will be supplied through a 108–109 kilometer pipeline connecting the reserves to Gode, where the factory will be established.
Beyond fertilizer production, he noted, the project is designed to serve as a gateway to a wider petrochemical industry, with the gas also providing feedstock for future plants.
Congratulations to all Ethiopians on another milestone in our journey toward food security and agricultural transformation. Today, we signed the Fertilizer Complex Shareholder Investment Agreement between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Dangote Group. With an investment of $2.5 billion, this mega project will produce up to 3 million metric tons of fertilizer annually, placing Ethiopia among the largest producers globally.
This project will create jobs locally, ensure a reliable fertilizer supply for our farmers who have long faced challenges, and mark a decisive step in our path to food sovereignty. It strengthens Ethiopia’s competitiveness across the continent and reflects our commitment to executing strategic investments that serve our people and our future.
Following today’s signing, we will officially launch the project on site. We have started this journey, and we will finish it for our farmers, for our economy, and for Ethiopia’s future.
