I am thrilled to announce that, starting today, I am now working as the Director of Labs, CNET Group, for Ziff Davis. I have been away from Ziff Davis for a long time, and I am very happy to be back, supporting the great work of its fine technology publications.
So, yes, Civilization VII is better now, but I’m still not convinced that it’s good, or that it will turn around the games fortunes. I will keep playing at least for now, though. We’ll see whether this stands the test of… replayability.
I’ve been busy today, so I’m just now catching up to the Civilization VII Test of Time update. Huge UI improvements right out of the gate. The opening menus make sense now and things work the way it seems they should. Advisors have been hugely improved, and options are clearer.
All that said: (A) This is still Civilization VII, so a lot of stupid, unforced errors remain, and (B) it does not speak well of Firaxis that it’s taken them 15 months to put basic Band-Aids on all the things that were wrong. They should never have made their original mistakes.

@FedEx@FedExHelp You have not delivered a package to me, and I have received nothing but broken promises and the runaround from your phone representatives. Can you please help me get the package I should have received two weeks ago?
Microsoft is making the original Zork I, Zork II, and Zork III games open-source today. Microsoft, Xbox, and Activision have teamed up to preserve the clever Z-Machine engine that powered the Zork games and allow others to learn from it https://t.co/7o78aacGwQ
My theatre and tech interests rarely overlap, but today, I got to suggest a practically perfect headline for a story about a Samsung product:
“No DeX, Please—We’re Skittish”
(Yes, I know it’s hugely impractical—I just loved having the opportunity to say it!)
I love that I no longer have to take my shoes off when going through airport security. Now they need to end the "take all your laptops out of your suitcase" restriction.
