Today, the @MPACharities proudly recognize World Autism Awareness Day and our continued commitment to supporting individuals with autism and their families here in #Mesquite.

Through our Autism Awareness Program, families can voluntarily share important information that helps our officers respond with understanding, preparation, and care during emergencies or unexpected interactions. This program has been a huge success thanks to our partnership with @mesquiteisdtx!

The @MPACharities and @MesquitePA are proud to support our #Autism Awareness Program in partnership with the @cityofmesquite, the #Mesquite Police Department, and @mesquiteisdtx.

Our program helps first responders better serve individuals with autism by allowing families to voluntarily register important information that can assist officers during emergencies or unexpected interactions. Participating families may also receive home and vehicle decals that help alert first responders that someone with autism may be present.

Honoring Officer Richard Houston II
End of Watch: December 3, 2021

Today, we pause to honor and remember Officer Richard Houston II, whose life of courage, compassion, and service continues to inspire everyone who wears the badge in #Mesquite.

Officer Houston served the @cityofmesquite community with unwavering dedication, humility, and heart. He embodied everything we ask of our officers —professionalism, bravery, and a commitment to protecting others, no matter the cost. His loss is still felt deeply within our department, our city, and among the countless lives he touched.

We remember not only the sacrifice he made, but the extraordinary person he was:

A devoted husband and father.
A trusted partner.
A steady presence.
A true servant to his community.

As we reflect on his End of Watch anniversary, we stand with the Houston family and continue to lift them up in our thoughts and prayers. We honor Richard’s legacy by carrying forward the values he lived every day—service, integrity, and love for others.

In Richard's memory, and the memory of all fallen Mesquite Police Department Officers, we are conducting a Memorial Challenge Coin fundraiser. Every coin sold will directly benefit the @MPACharities

Our latest initiative is a program that aims to combat impaired driving before the offense of driving while intoxicated is committed. This program provides individuals with a free ride through @lyft, offering a responsible choice that prevents dangerous driving and its severe consequences.

We're thrilled to announce Ms. Knight and Ms. Wathen as the 2025 Meagan and Kody Rough Memorial Scholarship recipients! Congratulations, Ms. Knight and Ms. Wathen!

Presented by the Mesquite Police Association Charities and Mesquite Police Association, this scholarship honors Meagan and Kody Rough, two vibrant young individuals who tragically left us too soon. Meagan and Kody are remembered for their infectious spirits and love for life.

Meagan Michelle Rough was born on June 29, 1993, in Dallas, Texas, and passed away on December 7, 2012. She was raised in Kaufman, Texas. After high school, Meagan attended Texas Tech University. She was tragically injured in a car wreck due to an intoxicated driver and later passed away.

Kody Lyn Rough was born on January 27, 1995, in Dallas, Texas. He passed away on January 29, 2018 as a result of a car wreck. He was also raised in Kaufman, Texas. He was called to his eternal home with the Lord and joined his sister in Heaven after.

The Meagan and Kody Rough Memorial Scholarship, presented by the Mesquite Police Association Charities and Mesquite Police Association, was established in their memory. The scholarship is open to children of members and retired members of the Mesquite Police Association.

Join us for the 2025 event on May 1st from 6:45-8:00 AM at Family Cathedral of Praise, located at 790 Windbell Circle in #Mesquite. This will be a morning of fellowship and prayer for the city, commemorating the 74th Annual #NationalDayofPrayer.

💙 This April, join the @MPACharities in celebrating #AutismAwarenessMonth as well as #WorldAutismAwarenessDay (April 2nd)! 💙

We're dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families through our specialized programs.

The MPA Charities and @MesquitePA, in partnership with the Mesquite Police Department - Texas, @cityofmesquite and @mesquiteisdtx, have developed an autism awareness program that allows first responders to be aware of residences and vehicles that may be occupied by an individual with autism. This program provides residents with decals for their homes and vehicles as a visual indicator for first responders that they may interact with an individual with autism.

Once a resident is registered, information is added to the Mesquite Police Department Computer Aided Dispatch system utilized by the City of Mesquite which alerts first responders when responding to a residence or individual that has been enrolled in the program. Officers have advanced training in crisis intervention which can aid in dealing with a situation where someone may be on the autism spectrum. Situations involving an individual with autism often must be handled in an alternate manner than standard operating procedure.
