The @NMC_IND had published a preliminary draft of Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2021 on its website in which postgraduates from the specialities of Medicine, Radiation Oncology and Pediatrics were eligible to apply for DM Medical Oncology SS Exams.

Shockingly, @NMC_IND in its latest PGMER [draft] has removed MD Radiation Oncology/ Radiotherapy and MD Pediatrics as a qualifying degree to appear for the DM Medical Oncology course thereby denying PG's from both those specialities from appearing for the Medical Oncology SS Exam

During the post-graduate training, compared to the MD Medicine students, the MD Radiation Oncology/ Radiotherapy students undergo much more structured learning of oncology for the entire three years of their training, including radiation, systemic treatment and palliative care.

The result of DM Medical Oncology entrance results of the last few years shows that a very significant number of MD Radiation Oncology students securing admission to the DM Medical Oncology super speciality course. This is on an upward trend year on year.

Making radiation oncologists ineligible for super specialization in Oncology is unfair to the doctor and the patient. We request the @NMC_IND to consider the feedback of radiation oncologists. We want to serve the cancer patients of this country to the fullest of our abilities.

It is to bring to your kind notice that in the 'DRAFT POST GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION 2021" released on NMC site on 29th July 2021, MD Radiation Oncology has been excluded as a feeder branch for DM Medical Oncology.
