Thank you @NYCCouncil for fighting for Dezmin and the hundreds of other children who sat at home this year, instead of in school, due to underinvestment in preschool special education. The final budget must fully fund preschool special education. @NYCMayor https://t.co/eUOKLsCwZt
Watch Deirdre Sawinski who joined @NYCCouncil to call on @NYCMayor to restore $ for 3-K/Pre-K and fully fund preschool special education. Thousands of preschoolers with disabilities like her son, Evan, are ending the year without their legally mandated classes or services.
Great to speak with @NYCCouncil Members about the need to #RestoreEdPrograms. Learning to Work, preschool special education, shelter-based coordinators, social workers, psychologists, bilingual programs, restorative justice, community schools, 3-K & more are at risk of deep cuts.
It's 10pm and parents of preschoolers with disabilities - and preschool special education providers - are testifying before @NYCCouncil, explaining the devastating impact if @NYCMayor@NYCCouncil don't restore funding for preschool special education as federal funds expire.
In less than four months from today, pre schoolers with disabilities could lose their services at the time when these services make the most difference.

Many important education programs are funded with federal COVID-19 $$ expiring in 2024 despite the continued need. Glad to see that @ShelleyBMayer & @LiuNewYork expect this issue "to play a major role in budget discussions." #EmergencyCoalition4Ed https://t.co/VwQb44pvJW
Despite the promise made by @NYCMayor one year ago and the requirements of federal law, 1,000 NYC children were waiting for seats in preschool special education classes at the end of the 2022-23 school year. And children are waiting today. @NYCSchools

Tonight we spoke at the Panel for Educational Policy meeting about the need for @NYCSchools to provide a preschool special education class for every child who needs one. 3-K/Pre-K is not "for all" when 800 children were waiting for seats in preschool special classes in June 2022.
@govkathyhochul@ltgovbenjamin Keep the 11% Special Ed Promise! This requires discontinuation of rate reconciliation, interim plus rates and enrollment decline adjustments in the budget language! #OurKidsareYOURKids#KeepThe11%PromiseforSpecialEdSchools #11%
.@govkathyhochul & @ltgovbenjamin vetoed Special Ed $ increase but promised an 11% increase next year. They need to make 2 changes in this budget to make it real: discontinue rate reconciliation & implement interim-plus rates.
