The insects observed appear to be non-biting midges (Chironomidae) — commonly found around water bodies and sometimes mistaken for mosquitoes.

GHMC Commissioner Sri R.V. Karnan, IAS, convened a review meeting on public health, vector control and entomological activities at the GHMC Head Office on 29 August 2026.

The Commissioner reviewed measures to prevent and control vector-borne diseases, with focus on entomological surveillance, identification of mosquito breeding sources, preventive measures and effective field-level implementation.

Experts from Osmania University and NIPHM shared technical inputs on scientific mosquito control and elimination of breeding locations.

The commissioner directed Zonal Commissioners and Circle AMOHs to intensify field inspections, ensure timely action on identified breeding spots and create greater citizen awareness on maintaining hygienic surroundings and preventing water stagnation.

He emphasized that scientific surveillance, inter-departmental coordination and prompt field action are essential to strengthen public health measures across Hyderabad.

Health Awareness at Amberpet Schools | MSU, GHMC

MSU, GHMC conducted health awareness programmes at Government Boys High School, Amberpet, on 19.08.2026 and Government Girls High School, Amberpet, on 20.08.2026, as per the instructions of the GHMC Commissioner.

AMOH Dr. Chakrapani, Dr. Manisha Rani and Mr. Arun sensitised students on communicable disease prevention, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, safe water and food, sanitation, dog-bite prevention and timely anti-rabies vaccination.

Students were encouraged to become “Mosquito Prevention Champions” by eliminating stagnant water and observing “10 Minutes Every Sunday – Dry Day” to prevent dengue, malaria and chikungunya.

Awareness was also created on personal and environmental hygiene and responsible antibiotic use to prevent antimicrobial resistance.

Together, let every student become a Public Health Champion and every citizen a partner in disease prevention.
