St. Paul fire captain Mike Paidar was a hero and his life was cut short because of cancer caused by the toxins he was exposed to responding to fires.

Firefighters put their health and wellbeing on the line to keep us safe. Currently firefighters who are diagnosed with cancer due to their service are not eligible for disability benefits or support for their families should they pass away— I’ve got a bill that would change that.

Firefighters responded to a basement fire on the 900 block of University Ave W just before 3am. Crews made entry to fight the fire and conduct primary searches. Conditions changed, firefighters were pulled out and defensive operations started. No injuries have been reported.
