Parenting is talking!! You must talk and talk until your child gets tired of your talk!!

This morning I had a tough talk with my teenage daughter. Kaali kenyiziza because I gave her some hot tea 🍵 on Sunday. When she realized that I won’t break all these days , she decided to make dinner yesterday and apologize.

She started “Daddy I asked to be forgiven blah blah blah”

In me I was “You thought u can win me. I am a conservative African parent” she talked and talked and after I used that chance to TALK.

I told her why I can’t trust her with a phone. Why I can’t say yes to most of her demands and why she still has to commute to school”
TOLD her trust is not something we pick from a tree. It’s earned and it comes in percentages. Now she’s still on 30 % and she has to work for another 70%.

We said goodnight 😴 and went to bed.

This morning she woke up , prepared for school and came to my bedroom to tell me mbu she’s thought about it she wants to earn my trust. Then I gave another lecture. Told her a parent is always right even if he’s not always right. A parent wishes you well even if it seems they’re mistreating you. I pumped sense until it was time for school.

An African parent must talk!!

For me I know, an African parent must have a big mouth. That mouth is big for a reason. To talk and talk and until they grow. When they do, they’ll remember how your hard talk shaped them!!
