Sami Zayn has made history by becoming the first Muslim to win the WWE Championship, capturing the title at WWE Night of Champions 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Born Rami Sebei in Laval, Quebec, Canada, Sami Zayn is the son of Syrian Muslim parents from Homs who immigrated to Canada before his birth. Throughout his career, he has spoken proudly about his Syrian heritage and has supported humanitarian causes for Syrians through his Sami for Syria initiative.
Before becoming world champion, Sami Zayn had already made history by becoming the first Muslim to main event WrestleMania 39 in 2023, when he and Kevin Owens defeated The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
