The @UNESCO CFIT III Project strengthened higher technical education, innovation, and industry collaboration across six Africa. At @MbararaUST, the project was Led by Dr. Medard Twinamatsiko and continues to champion competency-based learning and youth empowerment.
From Uganda to the global stage,
@MbararaUST through the @MUST_CITT proudly joins other African institutions in Paris, France for the closure of the UNESCO CFIT III Project on Higher Technical Education for a Technical & Innovative Workforce organized by @UnescoEast@UNESCO.
A major innovation milestone for Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
A team of graduate students emerged Best Overall Pitch winners at the STI Future Makers Hackathon 2026 during National Science Week.
Their solution, ZuulaCare GastroDx™️, addresses the challenge of limited access to reliable diagnostics, particularly in underserved communities.
Congratulations, team.

ZuulaCare GastroDx™️ is a novel dual-target molecular diagnostic test capable of detecting Helicobacter pylori and Salmonella Typhi simultaneously from a single stool sample.
By integrating LAMP amplification with CRISPR-Cas12a detection, the innovation enables rapid, accurate, and point-of-care diagnoses, transforming access to healthcare.
MUST’s innovation hub @MUST_CITT was ably represented by Mr. @MartinMukama Senior Prototyping and Technology Development Officer, who engaged students on the importance of prototyping in transforming ideas into real-world solutions.
Sharing his own journey, he reflected on how he and his team once stood in a similar position, pitching their idea; PRISMS technology, a newborn clinical decision support tool back in 2013. Today, that innovation has secured multiple grants and is being used across Africa, demonstrating the power of persistence and innovation.
He encouraged students to take advantage of upcoming @MbararaUST CITT seed grants, positioning themselves for support in prototype development, product development, and commercialization.
This week is shaping more than projects, it’s shaping mindsets.
Through hands-on training, @MbararaUST students are gaining practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the confidence to innovate for impact.
With hands-on training by @FundiBots,
Students explored robotics, circuit design, and Arduino programming during today's training. The D. Director of CITT @wasswawilliam16 emphasized the role of competence-based learning where practical skills complement academic qualifications.
The Annual Innovation Week at @MbararaUST organised by @mues_must kicked off in style.
Students dived into electronics, robotics, and hands-on problem solving at the Co-Creation Space, powered by the incredible support of @CITT_MUST.
This is where ideas become solutions.
Today, the entire @MbararaUST community joins in celebration of a visionary leader, an acclaimed researcher, and our Vice Chancellor, Prof. @PbyakikaPauline.

@MbararaUST clarifies that HIV statistics recently reported by @PulseUganda refer to the Mbarara District population, NOT the MUST student community.
We reject the misleading use of University imagery to frame these statistics and call for immediate retraction and ethical reporting.
MUST remains committed to scientific accuracy and the wellbeing of our students and staff.
