@Mickholloways Often we hear from people with this diagnosis who have challenged poor standars of practice. Its questionable whether workers need specialist skills or simply to listen to patient who dont shirk from calling out poor standards.
MH nurses have the worst attitudes towards service users labelled with personality disorder of any MH profession and no one knows what training would make much of a difference..

Our 3rd study this wk found self-harm by middle-aged men rose sharply post-2008 recession, linked to ££, jobs, housing, alcohol. Correlated with rise in suicide in same group, implying same causes. Shows fatal pressures of 10yrs ago & of any future economic shock. @TheBJPsych
The vast majority (92%) of service users without a PD diagnosis said they feared complaining about care would result in a PD diagnosis. Raises qu of how PD diagnosis is used as hidden leverage to deter patients from challenging poor care. #RITBpoll
3 studies from my unit in last wk on key groups in #suicideprevention: (1) middle-aged men - highest suicide rate (2) young people - highest self-harm rate (3) people discharged from ward - highest risk time. Such national/international collaborations are vital to research.

There is profound meaning and healing in being recognized and accepted for the unique person that one is, rather than being forced to be that which someone else assumes or wishes one to be. No diagnosis or lab coat can change this fact. #psychiatry#selfworth#Loveyourself
@DBDouble@CEP_UK@Derektracy1@TheBJPsych@Mental_Elf@mentalhealth @drjudeharrison @Psycle_Doc @J_F_Hayes Interesting. The term is clearly used in a pejorative sense, but is totally ambiguous. It leaves me sure that I'm not an "antipsychiatrist" (and certainly don't want to abolish the profession) but unsure as to whether I'm regarded as possessing that mindset by others...
@Derektracy1@TheBJPsych@Mental_Elf@mentalhealth @drjudeharrison @Psycle_Doc @J_F_Hayes This article refers to a 'minority anti-psychiatry mindset'. Given 'anti-psychiatry' is now being used to label anyone critical of psychiatric orthodoxy, phrases like these feel like attempts to marginalise the legitimately critical voice. Ironic given the editorial's purpose...
