East London cross-party grassroots campaign group for Proportional Representation in House of Commons. Supports better democracy everywhere! #MakeVotesMatter
‘The right is ruthless in seeking power, aided by our First Past The Post voting system’
“Electoral reform must abolish FPTP, facilitate cooperation between progressive parties, make voting more accessible and rid us of anti-democratic influences [..].”

Devolution should be about making decisions as close as possible to the people most impacted.
For that, we need to keep the 'local' in 'local government'.
And we should have proportional representation for local elections - to make them as fair and democratic as possible.
Thank you to @YoungGreenParty for your support 💚
"The Young Greens have been working with campaign group Make Votes Matter as they launch their new youth wing, Young MVM, a cross-party network dedicated to mobilising the next generation of voters."

Our director of research and policy, Jess Garland, spoke on ITV News Anglia about our findings from the general election.
Our report, A System Out of Step, delves into the factors which defined this historically disproportional election. Read it here: https://t.co/UFePCqxglV

In the General Election, nearly a third of voters said they would be opting for a party that wasn’t their first choice in order to keep out another. Find out more in our new report: https://t.co/fF0jIjheOK
📢Fair elections mean abolishing our outdated first-past-the-post electoral system.

"My parents live in a rural seat in the East Midlands. No one in that village has ever been canvassed. Their votes don't matter."
Our CEO @Emma_Campaigner recently spoke at @cambridgeunion about the way FPTP is failing millions of voters.
We need PR so that no seat is ignored.
The General Election in 2024 was not only the most disproportional election in British electoral history, but one of the most disproportional seen anywhere in the world. Find out more in our new report: https://t.co/fF0jIjheOK

Great to see the momentum behind changing the voting system - and we are proud to see @Lisa_Smart working hard with other allies and cross-party to achieve fair votes!
Only with fair votes can we resolve the UK's long-term issues instead of the next government undoing it all.
Joined Bristol @MakeVotesMatter today at their stall outside Waitrose in my ward. Pleased (but not surprised 😀) that large numbers of shoppers were in favour of switching to proportional representation.
Canada will not even remotely be a functional democracy until there is an electoral system of proportional representation.
Without it, suburbanite Toronto will continue to dictate which parties form government and whether important legislation ever sees the light of day.
John Curtice explains that First Past the Post no longer keeps parties like Reform in check #R4Today
Retaining a system that hands out parliamentary majorities on 1/3rd of the vote is not only unfair, it's becoming dangerous
🎂 Also, a very Happy Birthday to @Sirjohncurtice! 🎉
"It will require a degree of political courage. It will require a dose of democratic humility. Because the current system doesn't work & has to be recognised as such"
🌹 @MarkDrakeford made the case for PR, starting with a National Commission for Electoral Reform, at our launch
"We are a multi-party democracy, trying to jam every possible shape into a square hole."
Excellent article by @josiahmortimer, citing research by @electoralreform.
Nearly 78% of votes in 2024 didn't directly affect the local outcome. FPTP isn't working.

Our new report on the 2024 General Election, A System Out of Step, explores in depth the most disproportional election in British history, in terms of how we voted and what we got. Our research reveals the full, worrying picture from this election. https://t.co/fF0jIjhMEi
https://t.co/7a29kYr4Eq quoted our Chief Executive in their coverage “It is clear... that the public is voting as if we already have a proportional electoral system, with people voting outside the big two parties in unprecedented numbers. https://t.co/b1xGrihScv
