Where are the wood burners in England & Wales?
Urban areas outside major cities are likely to have the worst #airpollution from wood burning.
New mapping highlights #Worthing, #Norwich, #Reading, #Cambridge & #Hastings.

On #InternationalWomensDay, I celebrate my grandmother—my inspiration. A mathematician in Spain, she raised 6 children, lived through a civil war & dictatorship, and became the first woman to lead a School of Education at a Spanish university 💜 #IWD2025
I’m so sorry to hear this, Michael. Thank you for letting us know. Sending a big hug to you all. I didn’t know Helen personally, but I used to cycle alongside her on my way home from work. I admired her confidence and style cycling in a skirt—I knew she was “cyclinginaskirt”
Hi cycling twitter. I'm Michael, Helen's husband. As some of you may know Helen's last scan showed that the cancer has grown and is impacting kidney function. This means we have reached the end of the road for treatment and are focusing on keeping Helen comfortable.
A busy end of the semester for a postdoc in my group, @becky_wagner4! 🎉 She gave a great presentation at the @PPS_UoS internal seminar and a poster at @theAGU. Fantastic work on wetland restoration and earth system modeling! 🌿 #AGU2024
Beyond voluntary severance, departments are turning off lights for Christmas, cutting international field courses, warming freezers from -80°C to -70°C, etc to reduce the uni’s carbon footprint… while the VC flies business class 🤔
@twunderclap@jimmcquaid@CleanAirSheff@SheffieldAir data from 2000-21 are from satellite and ground observations; pre-1998 are from computer climate models, that were previously adjusted with the present-day obs. Hope it makes sense; more info https://t.co/qwwf66dSrz
Excited to share the Air Quality Stripes for Sheffield! 🌍 They show past PM25 pollution, progress since the Clean Air Act & work still to do. Big thanks to @jimmcquaid, Kirsty Pringle & team for this great tool and pulling out the data for Sheffield @CleanAirSheff@SheffieldAir
Excited to welcome @RuXu_geo to my research group at @lc3m_cdr and @PPS_UoS! 🎉 Looking forward to working together on oil palm, weathering, earth modeling and more.
Wow- four AQEG reports published last week:
- AI in air quality
- Horizon-scanning: Seven potential risks of relevance to the UK
- New Opportunities for Particulate Measurements
- Air pollution from H2

Sheffield’s air quality is taking a serious hit tonight with Bonfire Night. PM2.5 is rising to toxic levels—my @sensorcommunity sensor is recording 40 µg/m³, and you can even smell it in the air. Consider limiting time outdoors if you can! @CleanAirSheff@SheffieldAir
Last week’s #PCF2024 symposium in Japan on plant-climate feedback and BVOCs was fantastic! 🌱🌍 Great talks, discussions, and a welcoming group of experts. Already looking forward to the next one in 2026!
