The Need for #Palestinian Women’s Leadership in Recovery and #Peacebuilding
From survival to sovereignty: why Palestinian women must lead Gaza’s recovery
Since October 2023, I have watched Palestinian women in Gaza shoulder the unbearable — keeping families alive, finding food and water, securing shelter, protecting children, and holding communities together in the face of destruction.
In my latest IAI peer reviewed article published by the Italian ministry of foreign affairs institute, Istituto Affari Internazionali - IAI in partnership with the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN), Mediterranean Women Mediators Network
I challenge the narrative that reduces these women to victims. They are the quiet architects of survival. Yet, as the conversation shifts to #reconstruction and political #negotiations, I fear a familiar pattern: those who rebuild communities are rarely invited to rebuild the future.
Recovery without women’s leadership is not recovery — it is a repetition of exclusion.
We must ensure that Gaza’s reconstruction is rooted in the Women, Peace and Security agenda, UN Women UN Women Palestine and that Palestinian women are recognized as decision-makers, not afterthoughts.
I invite you to read my full commentary, published by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and MWMN, and join the call to center #women in Gaza’s peace and recovery.

Too often viewed solely as victims of conflict and crisis, Palestinian women, particularly in #Gaza, remain overlooked as powerful agents of resilience, leadership, and #peacebuilding.
While the world hastens to respond to the humanitarian crisis, one question remains: will Palestinian women have a say in the future of Gaza – not as recipients of reconstruction, but as peace decision-makers?

This #WomenInDiplomacy Day Italy 🇮🇹 honors all the women that make a difference for good governance, effective negotiations and successful multilateralism.
Full and equal participation of women at all levels of decision-making isn't a choice any longer, a message we sent loud and clear at the side event 🇮🇹 hosted last March on the margins of #CSW69 & to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Italy at the UN 🇺🇳.
The future is better with women at the table!
