The youth employment crisis is serious, and needs urgent action.
However, the arguments advanced by some that the answer is to roll back on improvements to young people's pay and conditions is nonsensical.
Making work better, fairer and more secure is not the problem - it has to be part of the solution.
Labour made clear promises to workers and young people in the Manifesto, and we are very clear that we expect them to deliver on them - in this Parliament.
🚨 ✍️ NEW COLUMN from TULO Chair @JoanneGSUsdaw to mark the Centenary of the General Strike
"Labour’s New Deal for Working People could be truly transformative, but only if the government gets it right.
We owe it to every worker who took part in the General Strike, and to all those who have taken industrial action since, not only to fight to deliver the New Deal for Working People in full, but to go beyond it, to keep pushing forward, and to continue improving the lives of every working person in this country."

It’s not acceptable, and action is being taken.
Working with @UsdawUnion, this Government is delivering for retail workers and making high streets safer.

This week, young workers from Usdaw took a trip to Parliament to meet with Minister for Employment, @DianaJohnsonMP and civil servants to discuss how to help younger people find and remain in work 💬
They had a tour of Parliament, bumped into Usdaw MP @tracygilbert72, and had a chance to discuss their concerns with @MWheelerMP, Chair of the Usdaw Parliamentary Group 🙌
Just some of the new rights at work heading your way today thanks to a Labour Government, the Labour-union link and the New Deal for Working People:
😷 Statutory Sick Pay from your first day off sick, ending the three day wait without pay.
💪 New, simpler union recognition rights. Making it easier for workers to get unionised.
🧑🍼 Paternity leave and unpaid parental leave from your first day on the job.
📢 New protections for whistleblowers.
Now let's finish the job and deliver the New Deal in full 🌹✊

I know families in #WorsleyAndEccles are feeling the cost of living. I raised this with the Chancellor.
Expanded free childcare, ending the 2-child cap & the Renters’ Rights Act are steps in the right direction.
I’ll keep working for families in our community. 📹👇

The challenge on youth employment is significant, but the way to get more young people into work is not by offering them bad jobs, on lower pay, with fewer rights.

Labour is rising to the generational challenge of properly supporting children with SEND.
We will set out our vision and ambition for a schools system where every child can achieve and thrive.
