#BTC My kids were excited to do another task today but they all decided it was not possible. We ended up talking strategies and solving it together. #second#math
Task: fill in circles with 1-6, no repeating numbers. Each side should be added to equal nine.
Some of us were still lost and others started to get it, but everyone wanted to add more heads or more legs. They wanted to argue that a sheep without a head was still a sheep. #truth But we only counted the live ones on this farm. We finally had to work it out in Math Congress.
8 heads and 22 feet = 30 animals We’re starting at a place where we see 2 numbers and just add them. During Math Congress we talked about why this isn’t reasonable and we’ll try again tomorrow. #buildingthinkingclassrooms#math#secondgrade
We started #buildingthinking#classrooms in math today. Groups worked at vertical surfaces to see how many squares were in the picture. Then we did a gallery walk and revised our work.
