This is absolutely disgusting and beyond disappointing.

It has been days since the 26 Carnival ended, yet the waste is still lying around at Central Park like nobody cares. How is it acceptable to leave a public space in this condition for so long.

Central Park is visited by families, and residents every weekend. Leaving garbage scattered around is not only an embarrassment but also a serious risk to health and hygiene.
Events can be organized, crowds can come and go, but cleaning up afterward is a basic responsibility.

The community should not have to suffer because of poor planning and lack of accountability.

The difference between the two photos is that the Vogue cover is an editorial, meaning the photographer made the conscious choice to curate a racist caricature of a black man, whereas the Israeli settler simply Just Looks Like That.

This whole controversy around the L’Espresso cover is reminding me how much I held my tongue as a teenager, afraid that I would sound crazy if I repeated what I saw settlers doing. For example, one of the Jewish settlers who lived in the stolen half (yes, half) of our house in Jerusalem would repeatedly do unspeakable, perverted things to a German Shepherd they kept in the house. Whenever international activists came to visit, I'd tell them that the settlers beat the dog, which was true, but I often omitted the part about the sexual abuse--something about naming it outright made me feel dirty, as if complicit (I was also very young) until one day the settler did it while two European activists were present. He most likely wanted to be watched. A couple days later, there was a graffiti on our wall that said something like "settlers are very, very strange people."

The way Israeli settlers are depicted in the media is, in fact, very often understated. I assume people worry about coming across as conspiratorial or bigoted, so they often hesitate to report the full extent of such depravity. But at the end of the day, it is really not our problem that many Jewish settlers are quite frankly caricatures of themselves.

I promise you, you don’t hate the British enough. This film is excellent in showing the British role in Zionist settler-colonialism. I had to watch it in a few sittings because I got too angry and distraught at the horrific scenes. It’s even worse when you see it from 2026 —90 years later and the Palestinians are getting genocided. You watch in the film how Palestinians aren’t at all prepared or understand the nature of the beast that’s invaded them, steals their land, tortures them, disarms them, murders them wantonly, they can’t predict how long this would last. Even the upper class Palestinian traitors betray because they misdiagnose the severity of what’s happening. On the one hand you have the brutal British colonial regime that specializes in oppression, and on the other hand, well-organized highly politicized Zionist Jews and Jews (who aren’t yet Zionists not entirely won over, yet they indirectly contribute to the cause of Zionism) moving there to establish a state, they hit the ground running, they control right-wing organizations, left-wing organizations, they work with British colonizers. Three million dead Vietnamese people are the scenery for a story about American self-discovery.

They made hundreds of movies about Vietnam.

The Deer Hunter. Apocalypse Now. Platoon. Full Metal Jacket. Born on the Fourth of July. Hamburger Hill.

Count how many of them center a Vietnamese character with a full human life, a family, a name you remember after the credits roll.

They turned our genocide into their coming-of-age story.

They lost the war and still managed to make themselves the main character.

And then, with extraordinary arrogance, they put their soldiers' names on a wall in Washington and call it a memorial, as if the dead to be mourned were the people who flew 10,000 miles to do the killing.

Where is the wall for our three million?

There isn't one.

Because in their telling, we were never quite real enough to mourn.
