The code of SerenityOS' desktop (without the panel) is a part of the FileManager (which runs in desktop mode when the argument "--desktop" is passed to it) through the function "run_in_desktop_mode" inside "Userland/Applications/FileManager/main.cpp".
In the first stage, SystemServer activates the following SerenityOS' services: WindowServer, LoginServer, SpiceAgent, LookupServer, Clipboard, KeyboardPreferenceLoader and NetworkServer. All of them can be found in "Userland/Services".
The kernel process "init_stage2" creates a user-space process which runs a piece of software known as "SystemServer" which initializes the userland for the user. Its code can be found in "Userland/Services/SystemServer".
