@landlawyerbrian I had a small <$10 overdraft right before the holidays and didn’t find out about it for a week (because, again, holidays). Ended up having to pay hundreds of dollars in fees. Closed my Chase account after that.
I’ve been seeing a lot of open captioned movies at @AMCTheatres lately, which is awesome.
Many of the movies seem like they should be viewed in 3d, though. It’d be fantastic if we could get some 3d open captioned showings of the big movies!
@tcmattox93@Gillybeans@WeckbaughR@bgrayfromfl @matt_vanswol Yeah, I'm actually really surprised to see something that low in Florida. I'm in WI and my house isn't in a floodplain (and is at the top of a hill) and the flood insurance is like 1% of the home value.
@RealCTopher@mcuban What if we didn’t make it illegal for Medicare to negotiate better prices on drugs? Imagine what would happen if they just said “ok, we’re not paying more than 20% over the average price in Western Europe.”
@matt_vanswol Want to make sure I’m understanding correctly. House was destroyed by flood, they didn’t have flood insurance, and they’re pissed that the government won’t pay to make them whole?
Dropped the prices on my paperbacks as low as Amazon would let me so I could order some copies. I'm going to change them back to the normal price this evening, but if you want a copy for essentially the cost of printing, now's the time..

@VastlyInformed @indexnforgetit This is almost exactly what I paid for my first house, in a safe area. (Granted, that was at the end of 2011: I sold it three years ago for a quarter million but the area become short on available housing)
@apathetic_t1d_@KKriegeBlog FWIW I’m one of those people who got a PhD (in computer science) but wasn’t able to find work as a professor. I really enjoyed those four years and I don’t regret it but it definitely had a financial cost.
@DC_Draino Prior to covid, I occasionally was able to work from home. I was always struck by how much more productive I was when I didn't have to go to the office.
@HauseOlivi84200 @BrentAWilliams2 I had a similar issue, but the formulary list on the insurance company’s website still showed my medication as covered, because they only update it once a year. That was fun to untangle…
@MexicanTalking@8WithaTiara However, the ACA actually reduced the deficit. It contains spending but also revenue, and it saves money for Medicare because people aren’t putting off needed care until they’re 65.
@BasedMikeLee No, it’s not a retirement plan, it’s longevity insurance. It guarantees that, no matter what happens to the stock market or the real estate market or anything else, you won’t outlive your income (even when you can no longer work). It’s basically an annuity.
