Teaching twang is my favourite. Just love seeing people get confident with being loud and clear and authoritative, even for situations with loud background noise. #mySLTday
⚠️BREAKING⚠️
The UK has fallen three further places in @ILGAEurope's annual ranking of LGBTQ+ rights across Europe.
In 2015, the UK was top of the ILGA rankings – a position it had held for four consecutive years. In 2023 the UK is at number 17, falling from number 14 in 2022.
My heart goes out to Brianna Ghey and her loved ones today, as they lay her to rest. Brianna deserved the right to grow old and live a full life as a trans woman. Rest in Pride Brianna <3 #BriannaGhey

Co-production is an area of the @RCSLT strategic vision. We're committed to embedding co-production with service users and their families in all our work. This thread will share some information and resources all about co-production and PPI in Speech & Language Therapy (1/12).
@SSpencerSALT@NigelSLT@JourneySpeech @HCS_Sheffield Great to know these lectures are still available. I’m so pleased and proud to have contributed learning content for @HCS_Sheffield students. @_Abi_Miller share with your peers if you learn something; remember you’ll come across LGBTQ+ service users in ALL areas of SLT provision.
@NigelSLT@burnay_tori@JenButlerSLT @LJennerSLT Thanks Nigel, certainly agree greater knowledge of glottoplasty is required. Who proofread the title though?!…
Just about every time a hearing acquaintance finds out that my spouse is hearing and I don’t use my cochlear implants 24/7, they give a shocked facial expression and ask how that even works: “That means you can’t communicate, right? Doesn’t spouse feel neglected?” Nope. See below
Denying a trans person access to the most appropriate treatment because they are trans - that’s discrimination.
If you are unsure whether you can provide competent care then reach out, ask for guidance, learn.

Note for voice therapists:
If referred a client with a voice disorder who happens to be transgender, please don’t discharge them just because they are also under the care of a gender clinic.
Clinical voice disorders are best treated by local voice therapy and ENT services. 1/2
Being LGBTQIA+ doesn't cause mental health problems. But discrimination does.
We’re here to fight for everybody on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia – and every other day. #IDAHOBIT
Thanks to @impmakesart for their beautiful illustration (1/2)
Catching up on the 1800 seconds on autism podcast. This episode answers questions from a speech and language therapist about being situationally non-speaking or ‘semi-verbal’. https://t.co/0LnjTopMMy

The idea of not fully banning conversion therapy is so appalling, infuriating, heartbreaking…
It’s such a damaging practice. Allowing UK transphobia to grow does so much harm.
This thread has lots of info on what trans conversion can involve and who it affects.
Really valued the #RCSLT trans and gender diverse voice and communication CEN event today. Lots to be gained by coming together, sharing and listening. Thanks to the speakers, organisers and participants.
And I’ve joined the committee, so aim to help continue the good work!
