The re-alignment of the A59 at Kex Gill has secured the final Government go-ahead.

A new 4km stretch of road will be created, replacing an existing part of the A59 which has been affected by the landslips.

Construction is set to begin in April.

This trial by @northyorkscc of a camera continues. Two issues exist: adequate power which should be resolved as elsewhere by wind and solar. The transmission signal is greater challenge but our 5G MANY roll-out in that area should help.

I have asked @northyorkscc highways officers to brief me on feasibility of an uncontrolled crossing at this busy location adjacent to PoW Roundabout. I recognise current difficulties for pedestrians. Funding is in place for Wetherby Rd crossing at Slingsby Walk.

I’m not aware of such request to @northyorkscc about our funded Kex Gill scheme, which is a diversion of a problematic existing road which will be restored to nature. The new alignment will avoid threat of closure and environmentally damaging detour.

Completion of improvement works to Junction 47 on the A1(M) is set for the end of March.
