I’m realizing that long-term relationships between two people don’t require perfectly equal contributions in every category. Differences in practical effort can be balanced by affection, intimacy, companionship, or other forms of closeness. But when one person keeps carrying more while also feeling starved for connection, giving stops feeling like love and starts feeling like depletion. That can result in detachment, not indifference.

Care can be genuine and still not be enough to create reciprocity.

I bought the HexClad Hybrid Double Burner Griddle. It was perfectly flat out of the box. I seasoned it according to the instructions, then cooked bacon. As you can see, it bowed upward in the middle. It handled the bacon, but eggs or pancakes would run toward the edges. It’ll be on its way home soon.
