Hi, everybody.
I’m pleased to let you know that we’re going to release a lecture a week from my extensive tour archive, beginning this Sunday and then repeating every Sunday after that.
This allows me to do something interesting and useful while I’m otherwise incapacitated. My health is such at the moment that I can’t really return to podcasting or public lecturing. But we recorded these with the express intention of preparing them for release, and we’ve all determined that this is a very good time to do that.
So that’s what’s going to happen.
I hope you find them useful and compelling. They’ll be particularly attractive to those of you who liked my early YouTube work that was very lecture focused. It’s a return to my roots, I suppose, in some ways. And I’m as happy as I can be under the current circumstances, given my ill health, to be participating in this process and to have these lectures prepared for release.
Thanks a lot for your continued attention and support.
- Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
43 years ago today, I stepped away from my career as a mechanical engineer and into full-time ministry.
I could never have imagined where that simple act of obedience would lead. The places I've been, the people I've met, the lessons I've learned, and the privilege of serving God's people have all far exceeded anything I could have planned for myself.
One of the most important lessons the Lord taught me early on was that ministry is not a promotion in status. It's a promotion in serving. Whether I was picking up dry cleaning as an assistant or preaching to thousands, the assignment has always been the same: love people and serve them well.
Looking back, I'm overwhelmed by God's faithfulness. Looking ahead, I'm just as excited as ever to continue running the race He has set before me.
Thank you to my amazing wife @lisabevere, our family, our @messengerintl team, and all of you who have encouraged us and partnered with us through the years.
To God alone be the glory! He is worthy of it all.
About one third of Americans say they read fewer books today than they did 10 years ago.
Half say it’s because they don’t have enough free time.
The other half say there are simply too many distractions competing for their attention.
More than a third also report that their attention spans have gotten worse over the past decade.
Meanwhile, the average person spends 10–20 hours per week watching short-form videos.
Let’s use the midpoint: 15 hours per week.
15 hours × 52 weeks = 780 hours per year
The average book takes about 6–10 hours to read.
Let’s use 8 hours.
780 ÷ 8 = 97.5 books
That’s roughly 100 books per year.
Now imagine someone went on a 5 yr short-form video fast and replaced that time with reading 500 books on:
Money
Business
Leadership
Human Nature
Great biographies
What do you think would happen to that person?
The way they think would change.
The way they see opportunities would change.
The way they understand people would change.
There are no guarantees in life, but the odds of success would certainly move in their favor.
That’s essentially what I did from age 21 to 35 after leaving the military.
And this doesn’t just apply to Gen Z, it applies to every generation.
Whether you’re 16 or 60, you can make this adjustment.
The future looks bright for those who remain curious, committed to learning, and willing to invest in themselves.
@linneman_tyler I don't claim to enlighten anyone, simply seeking the truth of the matter.
So if a metaphor is not used in scripture that means it can't be used in the 21st century to convey a message?
Also, what really is scriptural metaphor?
Metaphors are 'based' on cultural contexts, on things the people living in a shared paradigm understand.
'This' has 'never' come up because condoms in that sense weren't present in the early church til the early 20th century + the spirit of the people interaction with condoms.
@Protestia The Bible gives us a variety of excellent metaphors to describe the indescribable Gospel. And if that isn't enough, the Father's have preached for 2 millennia and given us many more. This has never come up, and for good reason.
@linneman_tyler I would expect the guy who think his point is something not to be missed to state such, so it's all good.
What's your metric to state that the metaphor used didn't accomplish what he attempted?
Just put your head down & build.
That's the only score that matters: build something.
Leave something behind.
Build something bigger than yourself.
At the end of the day, the only score that matters is the answer to the question “what have you built?”
@penuelist_ Untrue to state this as a principle.
The seeming outcome isn't directly causal.
However, it's true that some poor people are the most creative and vice versa.
@JMill7299@linneman_tyler God made sex. There's nothing to defend with regards to talking about sex. In fact, not talking openly about sex openly is what breeds the taboo that gives pervesion to sex. Metaphors don't have to be SCRIPTURAL (whatever this means) for them to communicate God's truth.
@linneman_tyler Your point is nothing to miss. Still, another point exist which I pointed to.
It's actually not up to you to determine which metaphor has more impact than another cos at the end of the day, it's about being understood by those who need to hear it.
