In October 2024, Reaction Engines crashed into administration, laying off 173 of the 208 staff who were made redundant. The company failed to secure the additional £20 million in funding from UAE's Strategic Development Fund needed to keep the company afloat.
Reaction Engines' history involves multiple other studies, including LAPCAT A2, a hypersonic passenger aircraft, a Passenger Module for Skylon, a modular Orbital Base Station, Project Troy, a proposed crewed mission to Mars, and even a space tug dubbed Fluyt OTV.
