A severe wind and hail storm is causing widespread outages and damage across Toronto, currently affecting approximately 65,000 customers. This is an evolving situation and we want customers to know that crews are actively responding across the city.

The safety of our customers, employees and the public remain our top priority. We are responding to reported hazards, including downed powerlines and damaged electrical equipment, while coordinating restoration efforts across the city.

Teams are assessing storm-related damage, making emergency repairs and working to restore service safely and as quickly as possible. Given the scale of the storm and the number of outages, restoration efforts may take time and vary by location. Additional storms are forecast throughout the evening, which may impact restoration efforts.

If you encounter a downed powerline, stay at least 10 metres away and call Toronto Hydro immediately at 416-542-8000 (press 1). Never approach or touch a downed powerline.

We will continue to provide updates as we learn more and crews complete assessments across the city. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we respond to this significant weather event.

NEW: Premier Doug Ford claims he "just found out" that the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party -- which he heads -- spent $3,000 -- to send an individual to Jamaica to allegedly spy on then-Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie.

"I don't approve of it," Ford says.

The premier adds that he doesn't "watch every single dollar" that the Ontario PC Party spends.

"I rely on our team to make sure they spend it appropriately," Ford says.
