@creativecommons@cgreen I trust Dr Green will be presenting using his preferred #FOSS operating system to demonstrating by example inclusive and sustainable use of technology to support open.
@billymeinke@creativecommons The "bazaars" are the only sustainable way forward imo. I'm betting that a multitude of "community gardens" could be a safer option than the "big ship". Too many deck chairs to move around in a restricted space.
@misc_nerd@Zawacki_Richter@_COER_ @UniOldenburg Its easy - you just search for the user in the format of username@instance, for example mine on the server Olaf is using is @[email protected] and it will find the user irrespective of the fediverse server they are using for the search. Hope that helps.
@_valeriei @edtechfactotum @abstractica @colinmadland Very important question. We tackle this challenge through citizenship education. It's a better solution than trusting mega corporations chasing profit to do the right thing. Our NZ experience with the Chch attacks being a case in point.
@_valeriei @edtechfactotum @colinmadland @abstractica The model is inherently scalable for institutions who want it to scale. This is not a technology problem, but rather an institutional leadership problem. Crossing thus chasm is doable, but requires patience and education.
@_valeriei @colinmadland @edtechfactotum @econproph There is accountability in the ecosystem. You can challenge a suspension based on the server's published rules - people have the right of response. People can join alternate instances without lock-in to a monopoly. Overtime instances build trust from the communities they support.
@ninetonoon Hundreds, possibly thousands, of NZers have moved off Twitter to Mastodon (part of the decentralised, non-corporate, non-profit community-run social media Fediverse I mentioned). Things are hopping. @radionz needs to be there, not just a bot.
