I built a desktop video editor that auto-generates lyrics synced to the singer's voice.

Drop in any song. AI transcribes the lyrics word by word with timing matched to the vocal performance. Works in 99+ languages. If a word gets misheard, edit it and re-sync that section in seconds.

I built MadSync because the tools out there either charge monthly, require cloud uploads, or don't handle music-driven editing well. So I made one that does.

I put my $14 app on the Microsoft Store.
Within a week it was cracked and uploaded to two piracy sites. That's Crazy!

I built MadPeel, an AI background remover and listed it on the Microsoft Store thinking more exposure = more sales.

Instead I got downloads from China. Zero sessions. Zero usage. The app crashed on launch and nobody ever opened it. I didn't receive any payments cause i guess they returned it but the data isn't even there about returns or anything really.

Then I found two piracy sites with my entire app uploaded. Full cracked version. Multiple download mirrors. With my listing...

The Microsoft Store wasn't a sales channel. It ended up being a place for piracy....

My earnings dashboard? $11.89 total even if it was above $200....Profit disappeared. I had two apps that costs $14-59. With 5 recorded installs across the two products.

I just pulled everything off the Store.

Lesson for solo devs:

Marketplaces you don't control aren't free distribution, they're free access for people who want to crack your work.

I sell exclusively on my own site now. I see every buyer. I control every key. And Lemon Squeezy handles the fraud so I don't have to.

Saved this. The technical stuff in category 2 is where sites quietly bleed between monthly check-ins. SSL, broken links, sitemap issues. they creep in and nobody notices until rankings drop.
I run those checks through a desktop auditor so it takes a few minutes instead of going manual. The GMB and citation stuff is what actually needs the human eye.

not all of them. ai tools need compute. cloud services have real costs. fine.

but a desktop app that runs on YOUR computer? charging you monthly for that is just greed. they already have your money. the software costs them nothing after you download it.

you're not paying for a service. you're paying rent on something you should own.
