Raslouw Private Hospital in Centurion has successfully performed its first two living donor liver transplants, marking a significant milestone for the hospital and South Africa’s transplant services.
The procedures were led by Dr Imraan Sardiwalla, Lead Hepatobiliary Surgeon, and Dr Neha Kumar, Transplant Surgeon.
Both doctors recently completed intensive international fellowships at leading transplant centres, gaining expertise in advanced living-donor and ex-situ techniques.
Living donor liver transplantation involves two surgical teams operating simultaneously- one removing part of the healthy donor’s liver and the other transplanting it into the recipient.
The liver’s regenerative capacity allows both the donor’s remaining liver and the recipient’s graft to grow and regain full function.
Both donors and recipients are recovering well under the care of the hospital’s multidisciplinary intensive-care team.
CEO and Founder Dr IO Ebrahim described the achievement as a major step for the hospital and highlighted the potential of living-donor programmes to address South Africa’s shortage of donor organs.
Hospital Director Dr I Mitha and Hospital Manager Mrs Maryke Lotz also praised the medical and nursing teams.
Raslouw Private Hospital has established a new liver-transplant capability, expanding access to highly specialised transplant care in South Africa.

Please explain to me how a Vietnamese foreign national obtains a visa to manage a game lodge?
What special skills does he possess and what does he know about South African wildlife?

This man you see here is a taxi boss and mafia leader.
If government gives you a tender of R600 million, you must pay him R150 million because you won a tender in his province.
If you don't pay, then you're dead.
His name is Joe Sibanyoni.
Jeremy Riekert assaulted a woman in the Eastern Cape, East London. He is a high school teacher at Gonubie High School.
This woman suffered a head injury as the result of the assault 💔💔💔
I want people to remember Sivenathi Toto as the young woman she was before the attack.
Sive was only 23.
In August 2022 she was attacked so severely in George that her life changed permanently. According to the case before court, she was dragged from her home, assaulted until she lost consciousness and then dumped near a petrol station.
She survived.
But she suffered severe brain damage and a stroke. She lost her ability to speak and walk independently and is now permanently wheelchair-bound and dependent on other people for her daily care.
The man accused of attacking her was reportedly granted bail the day after his arrest.
Action Society became involved and continued monitoring her case. Four years later, the court process is still continuing.
When we talk about GBV victims, we understandably speak about the women who have been murdered.
But there are also women like Sive.
Alive, but carrying catastrophic injuries for the rest of their lives.
Her life cannot simply become another forgotten court file because she survived.
Say her name too.
