Today we’re launching our #TurnTheTide campaign, calling on the government to take immediate action on rising energy bills, rent, and debt.
It’s no longer a one-off ‘crisis’, but an everyday reality for millions of people. Something has to change.

On a rough calculation it's about 6-7% of people with an anxiety or depressive disorder who receive any PIP. Many people will have other conditions too. I'm not sure these findings show that the public are against the benefits system we have - if it were represented accurately.
MPs and much of the media have spun a false narrative about tonight’s Universal Credit vote. The PIP pause has created the myth the government has fully u-turned on its disability cuts. But £2 billion is about to be pulled from the sickest and poorest people in the country.
UC & PIP bill proposes the biggest cuts to disability benefits since OBR was created. It would:
✂️cut benefits for 3.2m disabled ppl
📈Push 300,000-400,000 into poverty, including 50,000 children
📈 Drive 440,000 into severe hardship

Great to see broad swathe of MPs expressing opposition to a Bill that will increase poverty and destitution amongst disabled people. This new joint briefing for MPs from 10 organisations sets out the broad & deep concern about the Bill from civil society: https://t.co/wjqbff2zwY
This bill will push disabled people into poverty. And have catastrophic consequences for years to come.
Read and share the @jrf_uk@NEF@TrussellUK@scope@CitizensAdvice@MindCharity & others briefing on the scale of issues this bill will create.

The government says the poverty impact will be mitigated by investment in employment support.
But they don't have the numbers to back this up - analysis of how many will move into work isn't due to be published until after MPs are asked to vote on the cuts.
A reminder that cutting disability benefits won't help people into work:
❌PIP isn't an out-of-work benefit
❌1 in 4 of those we help with PIP @CitizensAdvice are already in work
❌Many use PIP to enable them to work
These cuts will push people into poverty, not work.
'How comfortable do you feel about a Labour government pushing a quarter of a million people into poverty as a result of your cuts?'

The government’s proposals for restricting eligibility for disability and incapacity benefits will cause significant hardship for disabled people.

Govt just published the Bill to cut disability benefits for > 3 million people, revealing that mitigations for those with the most severe conditions ministers have been telling MPs about will protect only up to 10% of new claimants from a halving of UC's health element 1/5
Today, the government laid its Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill before parliament. But what's actually in the bill and what happens next?

It's important for anyone considering this 'olive branch' to be clear that it's made from three policies which the Government already announced three months ago. (1/5)
🧮 Mentions of disabled people in the Chancellor's spending review: 0
That's despite the government's plans to rip billions from the welfare budget. Which will have catastrophic effects.
We can't be clearer. There is no 'renewing Britain' without including disabled people.
The disabled people we help are among those needing the most support with cost-of-living issues.
