In our 2nd episode of the season, the Secretary of the Puerto Rican Independence Party, discusses: How is the Puerto Rican identity unique? And, How the political climate in Puerto Rico is favoring pro independence & progressive candidates? @PIPtwitteando

@GreenUrb@Lordkneels there is this belief, however, Puerto Rico BELONGS to the USA, but is NOT a part of the USA. It is a TERRITORY, an UNINCORPORATED territory to boot. Commonwealth = euphemism

The theory used to be that a free Puerto Rico would be desperately vulnerable, and that only the support and protection of the U.S. government could save us from massive death and destruction.
Six years ago, in our most desperate hour, that theory crumbled.
SCOTUS rules that the USA’s Junta over Puerto Rico isn’t subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) because it’s part of the “territorial” government, not the federal… but also not subject to Puerto Rico’s constitution’s information access requirement because it’s federal
Looks like the USA press is going to report the @cpipr v. Junta case in obfuscatory terms and paper over the most concrete consequence: the USA’s regime over Puerto Rico is not subject to any information access laws, neither FOIA nor Puerto Rico’s constitution
Yes, to live in Puerto Rico is to live in a dictatorship
The SCOTUS has decided that the federal unelected junta not only overrules elected government in whatever area they please but that we as Puerto Rican colonial subjects have NO RIGHT to transparency in their dealings
The unelected justices on the US Supreme Court just delivered a big blow to both the rights of Puerto Ricans and to journalism.
Puerto Rico's Center of Investigative Journalism sued the unelected fiscal control board that the US government imposed on the colonized "territory".
The Supreme Court ruled that the people of Puerto Rico do not have the right to access documents that show how the unelected fiscal control board runs their lives. So the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) basically does not apply in US colonial "territories".
This is blatant colonialism combined with a full-frontal attack on journalism.
We stand with .@cpipr in rejecting a #US Supreme Court decision that tramples on the rights of Puerto Ricans to information and freedom of the press. Read more about this anti-democratic, anti transparency decision here:

Nothing radical about not wanting to get shot in school. Nothing radical about wanting control over your own body. Nothing radical about wanting enough clean air and clean water to live a healthy life. Nothing radical about wanting the wealthy to pay their fair share.
For decades, Justice Clarence Thomas has secretly accepted luxury trips from a major Republican donor, newly obtained documents and interviews show.
The extent and frequency of these apparent gifts to Thomas has no known precedent in modern SCOTUS history... 🧵👇
NYPD officers arrested a guy with a BLM sticker on his helmet, didn't realize his phone was recording, were recorded bragging about milking overtime, calling a female arrestee a "liberal c--t," and joking about committing the arrestee to a mental hospital. https://t.co/9NBKmBDxdk
I'm excited to be keynoting at Course Hero's Education Summit on June 30, where I'll be discussing how we can continue the critical work of fostering diversity and empathy in education. I invite you to join me for this free professional development event: https://t.co/kF5Z2yRD6V
@MCollazo215@DiegoAlcalaPR "PR is a property" = shield = colonialism strikes again.
Slavery was legal also. Quite often laws, social constructs, merely codify: "might makes right."
