Having been the victim of revenge porn without it being a federal crime was truly a nightmare. This #InternationalWomensDay, I am so grateful to the work @hertime2020 has done to move the SHIELD Act forward, and thankful @RepSpeier, @amyklobuchar and others reintroduced it today.

@935Curr An important implication for me is language use and conscious word choice.E.g: I have a friend whose pronouns are they/them, & I find myself using the incorrect pronouns when I talk about them. I also need to work on correcting people when they use outdated &/or derogatory terms

At work (a restaurant) someone asked to speak to "the owner's wife", but she is actually one of the owners, not her husband. I was stunned!

@935Curr 2/2: E.g: those who pass as white benefit from white privilege, but still deal with racism daily (this also brings up the issue of colorism, but I digress). For me, I present as able-bodied & neurotypical so I have privileges but deal with the complexities of illness & disability

@935Curr The relationship between privilege and "passing" is one I struggle with. I think it is a rather complex dynamic--those who pass as a member of a privileged group are privileged in a sense as well, but they also have to juggle the complicated histories & cultural identities (½)

@935Curr Something that caught my attenttion--or rather, lack of something--was the discussion of internalized dominance without any mention of internalized oppression (when a marginalized person plays into the cycle of oppression without realizing it). (1 of 2)
