#BLR Thinking of doing monthly cubbon park founder walks + breakfasts on Saturdays @ 7:30AM. No agenda & def no 'pitching'. Just problem solving on whatever you are stuck on e.g. scaling, hiring, culture. Will keep cohorts to <10ppl; DM me w/ what ONE problem you need help with!
Such a good post from @NotionHQ on their Postgres migration.
* Origin of the name "shard"
* Why they chose 480 logical shards
* Migration process (double write, backfill, verify, switch)
* Migration and verification wrote by different people

Why is the Apple M1 so fast?
- More specialized system on a chip components
- Unified memory
- Fast integrated SSD
- Faster out of order instruction processing with more decoders & bigger buffer, made possible by simpler fixed length RISC instructions

✨New educational materials!✨
Today I'm announcing two new, free resources I've written: an 8-lecture course on fundamentals of distributed systems, and a 30-page tutorial on elliptic curve cryptography. https://t.co/afIJbOm271
If you've ever wondered how fibers work, you should probably watch Fabio's incredible Scala World talk. If you don't want to watch a video though, I wrote a very long-winded explanation from both practical and conceptual viewpoints: https://t.co/b5o2daATxu
After nearly two years of hard work, I am excited to announce "Foundations of Functional Programming in Scala" is now available in an Early Access Program!

I had a look today at 🍃@springboot 2.4 and the new actuator endpoint "startup" - that makes it easier to analyze which beans contribute the most to application startup time.
I wrote a post about a grouping of concurrent algorithms into performance "levels". I use this mental model to more quickly map out the design space and dismiss alternatives that aren't likely to provide a performance boost.

Feedback warmly welcomed.
Some of the @usenix ATC 2020 papers look amazing! Personal favorites (going by the title + researchers):
- Fine-Grained Isolation for Scalable, Dynamic, Multi-tenant Edge Clouds
- Peregreen — modular database for efficient storage of historical time series in cloud environments
INDIA STANDS APP
