@millyaarellano@besavageee I agree how they are manipulated under false pretenses by these contracts. Students who are academically underprivileged and underprepared have to work double-time it seems for them to manage their classwork with athletics. #ucr150@besavageee
The NCAA makes it impossible to uphold stringent academic and athletic standards. Student athletes take harder classes and miss them for practice and travel, making it difficult to graduate. #ucr150@besavageee
Transfer restrictions on student athletes inhibit their mobility socioeconomically because NCAA contracts can prevent them from retaining their scholarships and benefits at other schools. I believe these contracts should be more flexible 2 those situations #ucr150@besavageee
@AvelarBritney02@besavageee I agree that having player's safety in mind while not using any research to create guidelines is ironic for institutions. It shows that they do not have the players' safety in mind, only their performance. @besavageee#ucr150
Lacking universal guidelines for return to learning protocols post-TBI allows colleges 2 force students 2 play when they haven't fully recovered. This endangers students in their athletic career, so the NCAA needs to use more statistics in their guidelines. #ucr150@besavageee
I find that the discourse that women's collegiate sports are mainly education, while men's are commercial, widens the gender gap in sports. Forcing admins to raise resources for women's sports, while cutting men's seems performative at best. #ucr150@besavageee
@CassieMunoz034@besavageee This picture is excellent describing the problem with equity. For women already given fewer opportunities to be in sports, rewarding them proportionately to their participation in athletics means fewer resources compared to men. #ucr150@besavageee
@_brissarojas @besavageee It is evidenced in the readings that recruiters are not explicit about the contract length, and this can misinform students. We should advocate for more transparency in these contracts because "full scholarship" is misleading to inexperienced student athletes! #ucr150
It was shocking to find out that only 17% of Pacific Islander players graduate in 4 years in the Football Championship Subdivsion. It makes sense to urge a transition from 1 yr to 4 yr contracts, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. #ucr150@besavageee
@Lesly_150 @besavageee I completely agree, the capitalist system neglects the lives of the members it relies on in college athletics. They deserve more rights for the work they do. #ucr150
learned how unfortunate it is that the NCAA controls/polices the finances for college athletes. The revenue gained from tournaments mainly goes to university funds. College athletes sadly cannot make extra compensation through the NCAA. #ucr150@besavageee
@jenniepher_sald@besavageee Unions would be extremely beneficial, specifically with establishing access to sports rehabilitation clinics. This could decrease the harm that sports injuries have on their lives in the long term. #ucr150
Recent strides in college athletes in self advocacy help with reporting sports-related concussions. These traumatic brain injuries must be recognized and treated early. It is crucial for the players' overall physical and mental longevity.#ucr150@besavageee
