@EddieComeaux@GlobalSportMtrs Clearly and certainly, attention to athletics should be revised, with a focus on anti-racist, anti-blackness policies. African American students shouldn't be overlooked, instead it is the institutions obligation to embrace equity trough CRT and justice /human oriented practices
@ucrleabeee@besavageee@besavageee#ucr150 this weeks readings provided critical points, and I strongly believe that the EBA is a great retention model but then again we need other tools of social justice and standards for the NCAA as well as they are the main source of recruiting/engaging athletes
Universities exploit African American students by failing to prioritize their academics. Students are in jeopardy as their studies are neglected, thus a higher rate of academic misconduct & academic careers at risk to obtain scholarship renewals. @besavageee#ucr150
It find it super disturbing in how through intercollegiate sports, students are sold into the myth of free education. Particularly, as it pertains to students of color who come from low SES, they are often targeted and limited as to what they can study. #ucr150@besavageee
@edie_carranza@besavageee@besavageee#ucr150
I agree with you in your statement, there is a lot of red tape! Basically the NCAA and its policies along with the freedom coaches are given, govern over athletes' lives for their own benefit. There is no freedom to seek their own wellbeing.
In order to grow, the NCAA leverages sports passion in a strategic way. Business! Money is derived from college athletes' performance and entertainment, and when it comes to transferring, there's nothing athletes can do as the 4-4 rule favors the NCAA most. @besavageee#ucr150
@BSanchez065@besavageee I agree fully that concussion education is a step towards a great start to address the neglect of athletes health. If anything it should be a requirement as many don't understand the severity it can cause, specially if there is no symptoms. #ucr150@besavageee
@besavageee#ucr150 It is clear that the NCAA doesn't care to care about athletes. Specifically as in many CM guidelines, graded exercise methods & returning to play are preferred. Often ignoring recommendations that emphasize cognitive/psychological recovery (Griffin, p.58).
@Malamillo150@besavageee While Title IX has closed the equity gap among men and women in education, it has also applied to athletics. Nonetheless, this has also generated to more exclusion as it pertains to challenges/barriers for transgender women in sports. @besavageee#ucr150
While Title IX is the landmark gender equity law for expanding the opportunity for women in sports, today there is still work to be done as it pertains to transgender women as the perception is that they have biological advantages. #edu150@besavageee

Like you I find it deceiving and unfair on how students have a week to sign the NLI, and how they have to commit to the institution.Yet a coach can decide to leave during the time being, and students end up paying the price, as they get no repercussions.
It is a disgrace that student athletes are targeted/brainwashed through a contract disguised as a scholarship. To top it off they have to maneuver on their own+ rely on their families to sign the NLI often unaware of the terms and conditions. #ucr150@besavageee

despite the unfair compensations that exist, these athletes are not being prioritize, specially during a health crisis. #edu150@besavageee
There is a lot of money made by the NCAA from college sports. Despite being exploited to-bringing in this revenue, student athletes do not make any money, they are limited in being not just an athlete, but a successful student. #edu150@besavageee
