@perlaespinozadi@annaaacha Receiving more support to achieve academic goals would solve a lot of problems! It is important to help African American athletes and provide them with any resources they need in order to succeed. #ucr150@annaaacha
African American football players are constantly exploited for their athletic abilities, but are not compensated appropriately. It’s unfair to see these student athletes participate in their sport more than their education. @annaaacha#ucr150
@sotoshayne150@annaaacha I totally agree! They dedicate so much time to their sport and try to maintain their education. It's hard when coaches make them skip class to go to practice for games. All this work deserves compensation. #ucr150@annaaacha
It's crazy to see how much influence coaches have on athletes' education. Coaches demand that athletes miss classes for practices on game days which does not prioritize their education (Lumpkin, 2017) @annaaacha#UCR150
@SarahHansen188@annaaacha Definitely weird! Seems like they make it so that everything works out in the coaches' and institutions' favor because they have much more leeway than student athletes. How come student athletes have such a hard time transferring but coaches don't?! @annaaacha#ucr150
The act of denying permission to contact denies athletes academic aid during their residency requirement is unjust. Athletes often rely on aid for their education, without it they are bound to a year of residency with no way to pay @annaaacha#UCR150
@Angnizzle081@abhornUCRedu It definitely is an area for concern! The NCAA should make it mandatory to have coaches take a concussion education course so they know how to properly deal with these injuries. @annaaacha#UCR150
Concussion management plans need to be implemented in these institutions. Mandating concussion education to coaches and staff is important to the safety of student athletes! @annaaacha#ucr150
@Nareenclute@annaaacha I don't think we're there yet because women's sports only receive 32% of recruitment dollars when they make up over 50% of recruitment. #ucr150@annaaacha
It's upsetting to hear that rather than increasing opportunities for women, some institutions eliminated men's programs and blamed it on Title IX :( @annaaacha#ucr150
@lisscastrom@annaaacha It definitely feels like a pick and choose game! These collegiate athletes have to always be worried about their next school year and if their scholarships get to be renewed. It makes it seem like these athletes are replaceable #ucr150@annaaacha
Signing an NLI seems like a trojan horse. These athletes think they are signing up for something great, but there's hidden loopholes and rules that aren't brought to their attention before signing #ucr150@annaaacha
@cjime074 It’s definitely not fair that athletes are struggling financially even though they work so hard! The picture you showed is really disheartening to see as so many college athletes experience this struggle but it isn’t brought to light #ucr150 @annnaacha
After evaluating the distinction between change/progress and reactions to an issue, what are some notable examples of “progress” within the NCAA that are really just reactions to athletes’ issues that gained awareness? #ucr150 @annnaacha
@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu Definitely! Their athletic careers are strenuous and have significant health risks. I think the NCAA should give them post grad healthcare for the possible aftermaths of college athletics. @annnaacha #ucr150
It is sad to see collegiate athletes working so hard, but not being properly compensated for their hard work. In turn, stakeholders get to benefit but they don’t. Make it make sense @annnaacha #ucr150
