This is a not fair characterization of the situation. DePaul became much of what it is because of our success in athletics.
Today, our Men’s and Women’s tennis teams took 1st and 2nd in the conference tournament, despite not having their own locker rooms, or gyms to practice in. They deserve better.
The success of our basketball program under Ray and Joey Meyer from 1942-1997 drew national attention to the little school under the L… People everywhere knew about DePaul.
The landscape has changed dramatically and prior administrations let DePaul fall so far behind that we’ve become non competitive among our peers. We’re the only team in the conference without dedicated practice facilities for our team. All of our varsity athletes have NEVER had their own locker rooms. Ever… That has to change.
When college basketball teams reach the NCAA tournament, they see a major influx in applications and enrollments the following year. Something DePaul desperately needs.
Despite these homes being old, they don’t serve much utility to the students. They are old, they do not have air conditioning, and are expensive to heat in the winter months.
DePaul has made adjustments to their plans to incorporate parts of the fascade, landmark designated areas, and took lots of feedback from the neighborhood.
Make no mistake, DePaul needs this new facility to be built if it is to do right by its students, alumni, and stakeholders. The other properties people have mentioned in the comments are already committed to other projects for the school unrelated to athletics. This is a small project in the grand scheme of what DePaul is doing to make sure it thrives in this new age of innovation and development.
DePaul has an obligation to do right by its students and make the most of its resources. This is their land, and we the students are behind their vision to make sure we support our student athletes. I hope you’re able to see the other side of the story from this.
.@jettamayss etches her name into DePaul's RECORD BOOK‼️

The Big East Conference, in the football driven world, reminds everybody yet again that they not only prioritize basketball but win at the highest level in it. The league is about to win its 4th national title in the last 8 NCAA Tournaments.
🚨Another one for Darius Brown‼️🚨
@_darius_brown_ secures a 🥇 place finish and a new school record in the men's 60m hurdles with a final time of 7.68!
