They state the shakyas were banished by their father and fled north to the himalayan foothills to be independent. They were a completely separate sub-himalayan clan.

Geographically the buddha was born in lumbini which is firmly in modern day nepal. His birthplace makes him from nepal and not from bihar or india.

Kosala literally launched a war and massacred the shakyas because they viewed them as a separate defiant clan. Modern labels cannot erase an ancient tribal identity.

In fact nearly half of the terai population are hill people who identify as nepali. The buddha wasn't madhesi either he was born in kapilvastu not in birgunj
