It has recently come to our attention that a former Gauge Editor-in-Chief posted a picture of themselves in blackface for a personal photography project in 2014. As the current Co-Editors of Gauge, we want to condemn the racist actions of our predecessors explicitly.
An except: It had started from the roots of the isolation that 2020 created, where the only person that could see me was me. And I was forced to make a decision: Could I live with myself this way any longer? Why couldn’t I be like my other peers?
An except: Art from thrift stores, a coffee table from Craigslist, a side table found off the street. Making an apartment feel like a home can seem difficult, but having pieces that are entirely you, that you picked out, will make the space feel like yours.
An Excerpt:
So tonight, I’ll let it rise
My throat will become a tide
I’ll let it push me and become one with you
I wonder if they know we’re long distance
Hold me
You dropped the sand from the beach onto my skin
Overflows
To fall back to the water again.
