@CallumLyon The rent is the big one. I think the only way the current generation can make it is to live with their parents while working their first jobs.
@lialiascg Living in the country, I see a different story. The dating market here is affected by the same cultural issues to some extent but people seem to settle into relationships and have families quite young. They seem a bit shielded by the extremes.

I think it's more important to have meaningful purposeful work when you get older rather than a complete cessation of activity.

It's hard to give advice in this day and age, because salaries haven't kept pace with inflation.
That being said the main cost is housing.
If you have a low salary despite working hard you have no other choice but to couch surf or to live in someone else's house and rent the room.
It is imperative to keep your costs under your salary. I know it's difficult but you must find a way.

@Dearme2_ I read that for first born children the parents are very anxious about whether they are parenting well and pass that anxiety on to their eldest children.
