Tony Robbins ran the simple test with Theo Von: scan the room for everything brown, then close your eyes and try to recall the red. You miss most of it. Open your eyes and deliberately look for red and suddenly it’s everywhere.

Beliefs work the same way. Once you decide you’re broken, or someone else is a jerk, the evidence starts piling up, even when you have to stretch it. The reverse is also true. Train the focus differently for a few days and the available evidence changes.

Most of us think we’re observing reality. A lot of the time we’re just confirming the story we already wrote.
