Kalyanapuram Rangachari Parthasarathy was 1 of the legendary "Famous Four" young probabilists at the Indian Statistical Institute in the late 1950s (alongside Abel Prize winner S.R.S. Varadhan). He later went on to co-pioneer Quantum Stochastic Calculus.

Parthasarathy went to Moscow in 1962 following the Cuban Missile Crisis on an exchange program. He lived in the modest Oktyabrskaya hotel near the Steklov Institute. Driven by a pragmatic need to communicate, he used his allowance to hire a local Russian language teacher.

He spent months painstakingly graduating from children's books to novels by Tolstoy & Dostoevsky.

Over months of hard study, he became so genuinely fluent that he could deliver his complex mathematical seminars at Moscow University & the Steklov Institute in Russian, earning the lifelong fondness of senior Soviet mathematicians who remembered him for decades as the "short man from India who lectured in fluent Russian."

Press Release —12 July 2026, Belagavi, Karnataka

The annual Akhil Bharatiya Prant Pracharak Baithak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh concluded today in Belagavi, Karnataka. Respected Sarsanghachalak Dr. Mohan Ji Bhagwat, respected Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Ji Hosabale, along with 226 Karyakartas, were present at the meeting.
In the meeting, a review of the training camps held at various levels of the Sangh after March 2026 was conducted. This year, a total of 83 Sangh Shiksha Varg and 12 Karyakarta Vikas Varg concluded across the country, in which a total of 18,842 Swayamsevaks were trained. This training included subjects like daily shakha, Sangh karyapaddhati, Gram Vikas, Kutumba Prabodhan, disaster management and environment.
Detailed discussions were held regarding the implementation of the action plan at the Shakha level, and the maximum Shakha Vistar Yojana for the month of September was also discussed. Along with this, a review of the completed programs of the Sangh centenary year and the planning for the remaining scheduled programs was considered. Plans were discussed to actively engage people who came into contact through various programs of the Sangh centenary year in social work and Panch Parivartan initiatives. The Pravas Yojana of respected Sarsanghachalak Ji for the year 2026-27 was also discussed.
The meeting discussed various topics concerning the current scenario, mainly including information regarding the census and the challenges arising from population imbalance. Along with expressing concern over the growing ill-effects of drugs, the need for priority efforts toward de-addiction and the planning for programs to mark the 650th birth anniversary year of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Maharaj were also discussed.
In the meeting, everyone expressed grief over the incident of irregularities in the counting of the donation box offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, and expressed confidence that the ongoing SIT and police action, initiated at the request of the Teerth Kshetra Nyas, will reach a decisive turn. It was expected of the Teerth Kshetra Nyas to ensure that no such incident occurs in the future which could hurt the reverence and deep faith of all Ram Bhakts toward the Ram Mandir.
